So tonight, thanks to a tip from a co-worker on Friday, I went to the Seattle Symphony. The program was a part of the Seattle Pop Series featuring Sci-Fi Favorites. I love hearing John Williams music live. When you hear “Duel of the Fates” in a place like Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony and Vocal Point! Seattle — well it suddenly makes your iPod seem like a 8 track player.
The concert was great, it featured George Takei (Lt. Sulu from STOS) narrating some bits. The conductor Jack Everly did a arrangement called “Lost in Syndication, TV Theme Medley”. Low and behold the third movement in that piece was the theme from Gary Anderson’s UFO. I’m sure that I was one of 6 people who caught it. It was fun to listen to the original Star Trek theme with soprano Kriten Plumery doing the vocals, while in a STOS red velour starfleet uniform. Another fun piece revolved around music from the classic “The Day the Earth Stood Still“, that ended with George Takei reading Klaatu’s ending speech. All in all a fun evening. The only thing missing was Robin, she had no urge whatsoever to go 🙂
